Barcoding Items

When creating items in QuickBooks, include the numerical representation of the barcode in either the item’s name or description.

When using the barcode scanner in iFleet, your device will search the item name and description fields for the matching codes, thus selecting the correct item.

Although there is a “barcode” field available within QuickBooks Advanced Inventory, this field doesn’t integrate with Smart Service.

Equipment Barcodes

Equipment is traditionally defined as anything owned by your customer. If you’re trying to barcode things your company owns, check out assets below. When adding barcodes to equipment records, we have fields designated for model and serial numbers. iFleet will also search the equipment’s name and description for the associated barcode.

This feature is useful when the customer has multiple pieces of identical equipment. You can scan in the barcode when creating equipment using the barcode scanner icon to the right of the field in iFleet.

Asset Barcodes

You would use assets for any company owned equipment used on services or rented to customers. You can click here for a full guide on the setup and management of assets in Smart Service.

Barcodes for assets will be entered in the asset’s name or description field. iFleet will search these fields when trying to identify the asset in question.

You cannot create new assets or edit asset ID’s in iFleet. These steps will be completed by the office and iFleet will use its barcode scanner to identify the item.
